Johnny Burke: Welcome to Closer to Venus. I’m Johnny Burke, and today’s guest is Tony Stockwell. Tony Stockwell is an internationally known psychic medium, teacher, and author. He’s also mentored the spirit workers of the future, with many of his previous students now working as psychic mediums. Today, we will discuss his work and how our abilities to communicate with our own soul and others, both here and in the spirit world, are evolving. Tony, welcome to the program.
Tony Stockwell: Thank you so much. Nice to see you, Johnny.
Johnny Burke: Great to have you. So, you were apparently welcomed into the world of mediumship at a young age. How exactly did that happen?
Tony Stockwell: 16 years of age. I just lost my grandma, and then I was invited to a spiritualist church meeting weeks after, and I found myself there, sitting there as a very young man. I. Not knowing what the heck I was letting myself in for. And, very quickly during that one evening, I just became actually fascinated by the mediums that were working there and standing there and presenting messages to other people. And I was intrigued enough to go back on my own the very next week and the week after. And it became like literally a religious thing for me where I’d go along weekly to this very simple meeting on a Sunday night in the area where I lived and there was access there to their library, which was a very small mobile library. And I read everything. The books they had were like literally from the 18 hundreds. I mean, it was, seems really old, spiritual. But I read everything and became utterly convinced by the things that I’d seen, and at 18, I was asked to join the one and only development group that was in that area. I was approached to join it because I think I was something of a phenomenon being so young and being so committed to it. Yeah, that’s where it started. I.
Johnny Burke: Excellent. The spiritualist churches; I have never been to one. Some people have talked about it. What kind of impression did you have walking into a spiritualist church, as it’s called, as opposed to the typical, Roman Catholic church that many of us have been to? What was it like?
Tony Stockwell: Well, with that, I’ve never been to a Roman Catholic Church. Just of interest, it was a really simple rented hall, a small hall, which was a red cross hall as it was with plastic chairs. A little table at the top end with a little aisle that you might find in church, tablecloth, and lots and lots of plastic fake flowers that look very. very cute. There was a healing book and a cross. We are non-Christian people at home, and so that was a little strange for me to begin with because we were pretty much brought up with no religion, and I kind of imagined myself having to pretend that I knew what they were talking about. cause I literally had no religious instruction at all. But you know, they were lovely people.
The church was run by people in their sixties, seventies, and eighties. Back then, in 1985, they’d all been through the last war. All the men were very smart in shirts and ties and very clean shoes. And the ladies’ hair was done, and they’d wear twin sets and pearls. And it was literally another generation long gone now, but they were lovely people, and they were very kind to me during that time and allowed me to hang out in that space and ask a hundred questions. I.
Johnny Burke: Okay. And the spiritualist movement is where mediumship began anyway, wasn’t it? It was in the 18 hundreds?
[Tony Stockwell: Well, I think mediumship is one of those things that’s always existed. You know, I can imagine people from another era feeling things, knowing things, saying things, but mediumship as we know it now, I’ve got your mother, this kind of mediumship, was certainly recognized and developed and demonstrated within Spiritualist churches famously got the Hydesville Rapids??? with the Fox sisters and it’s all in the states. And that we celebrate now the 31st of March, 1848. It’s all sort of drummed in there somewhere. The wrapping???. That was a fascinating story of an ordinary, seemingly ordinary family that when their daughters were at play, they would hear knocks, and then they would develop this idea of, you know, one knock for yes and two for no. And is it you? And that’s where that started. But there was mediumship prior to that, certainly. And that was a religion. You know, the States have got a huge history of modern-day mediumship. But it also flourished here in the UK.
Johnny Burke: The way it was explained to me is that spiritualism, was recognized in maybe the mid 18 hundreds, and I believe it was in upstate New York, I think near Woodstock, I think somewhere around in that area. And I was there recently, and the vibe of that place is unmistakable. That’s probably a story for another day. So when you were young, even younger than your teen years, were you predisposed to this type of thing? I mean, did you sense things, see spirits, anything like that?
Tony Stockwell: Yeah, I did. I did. Lucky, really, in many ways, because my parents were ordinary working class In the 1970s and 1980s, parents where were busy trying to work and survive. And so I would feel and see things quite often, tell my mom and dad and they would sort of look at me rather disinterestedly. They weren’t taking me to a therapist. They didn’t have time. So they were like, ‘oh, that’s wonderful, and off you go, go play. ‘But I was seeing things, and I was hearing things not constantly, not at all. But I’d certainly had encounters, but they made very little of it, assuming as an active imagination. So, I grew up in a very normal, ordinary working-class environment where no one really questioned the things I said.
Johnny Burke: Okay. And it was a non-religious environment as well.
Tony Stockwell: Very much. No, I suppose the family, historically, were possibly Church of England, but no one I knew, and on my father’s side, just a little bit Jewish, and the rest didn’t bother going to church at all. Yeah.
Johnny Burke: You believe our ability to communicate with people here and in the spirit world is evolving. Does that have anything to do with Ascension or a rising vibe or the Age of Aquarius, or is it something separate from that altogether?
Tony Stockwell: Well, you know, Johnny, it may have everything to do with it, but to my mind, I see a growing need to kind of broaden our perspective. So we’ve already spoken about modern day spiritualism, which I love and respect still. But it served a purpose very much at that time, and it was very much based on evidence.
So the idea is we, the medium, would stand, and we had such pressure then to say, I’ve got a man here called Adam. I know he’s 56, and you know. Evidence. Evidence. Evidence, which we still have to present absolutely. But in the last number of years, certainly since the pandemic and since I’ve been on Zoom, I’ve been far more creative with my courses.
And so I’ve been running courses on shamanic mediumship, on star beings, on animal mediumship and how to hold and balance power, how to be on our own spiritual journey. So it’s moved very quickly from the evidence of, ‘I’ve got a lady who’s Mary. ‘And although we still do that absolutely because I still demonstrate that -I’ve done three theater demonstrations this week alone, doing exactly that. But I think the evolving is really looking to honor what we’ve had but branch out deeper, to consider other things that make our mediumship richer for the experience.
Johnny Burke: shamanic mediumship, which is, very much of interest. I want to ask about that, but, since we’re talking about seeing spirits, right, I went to a show here with a medium, he’s fairly popular and one of the first things he said was, ” I see dead people everywhere in this room.” My question is, I don’t doubt that ability does exist with certain people, but does that have anything to do with restless souls or earthbound souls, or do they just come through as they’re needed?
Tony Stockwell: It’s very difficult to say entirely, but for me, I don’t see dead people all the time in that room. Not at all. Now, I’ve been demonstrating for 35 to 36 years publicly. So I’ll often stand up in a group and talk to the audience and say hi, and then I have to wait. I have to wait for a vision. I have to wait for a feeling. I have to wait for a sense. And I like that idea of waiting to feel. It feels like a real phenomenon. Sometimes I have to wait for a good five minutes, and I’ll go, oh, hang on everybody. And then usually it builds, the momentum builds, but I’m certainly not someone who sees spirits around me all the time.
But those I do feel, and those I do sense, the vast majority of time, they come because there’s a reciprocal love bond, IE. There’s a lady in the audience who adored a son. The son gathers because he adored his mother, and he’s fully and well ensconced within that other realm or that other dimension, but he chooses to gather back. And the interesting thing here, of course, is that, without confusing anybody, you imagine the mother who grieves in the audience on a soul level. She already knows her son lives, so when she sleeps, her soul is far more available, active, and enlivened. So, she already has that communion with her son. It’s only when she wakes up that her human self, doesn’t know that he’s there.
So I often tell groups, you know, when I’m working, that the human is made up of the physical, emotional, and mental bodies or the mental selves, and then we’re housed within that. And about that is the soul body. And I think that we are soul beings lent to the world. But I also think there’s only a small part of that essential soul that’s ever incarnate to any one time. So I think when we grieve, there’s only the human that grieves because, on a soul level, we know our grandmother walks with us.
Johnny Burke: I like that, and I’ve heard that, many times by many of the mediums that we brought onto the show, and many are convinced that our loved ones are like right there with us like maybe even be in the same room. It’s just on a different frequency or something like that. It’s almost like a radio dial, you know? And you brought up something about dreams, and I’ve also been told many, many times that when we dream of our loved ones, often that’s really them communicating with us. Sometimes it’s in signs, and maybe it doesn’t always make sense, but in your experience, when we have that kind of vision, you know, the dream visitations, maybe, are most of them real, or is it kind of hard to really establish that?
Tony Stockwell: Well, it’s certainly hard to establish it for everybody, but my experience would dictate that like everybody else, I’ve had dreams that kind of don’t make sense when my grandmother’s walking around holding a banana and I think is that her or is that a dream? Is it my mind figuring something?. But then there have been occasions, and I think maybe your listeners would also recognize this, where we have an encounter, you wake up, and it’s very different from a dream. Like your loved one’s been talking to you, been looking in your eyes, and it’s utterly different from a dream where we’re in a car at the mall and this kind of thing. It is not particularly interesting because I’ve had encounters like this.
One of my dogs, which I absolutely adored, was named Archie. He had died. I had to take him to the vet because he was ill for a long time, and I was devastated. And I think it was a good two months after he’d been, he’d passed over that, I was waking up about to open my eyes. So it wasn’t a dream as such. And suddenly, I felt him on my chest, licking my face as he used to. He was a very intense licker, and I managed to wake up eventually, and it was so utterly real. And it was almost at that time between sleep and being awake…
Then, the one other occasion where a personal loved one came was my aunt, who I loved very much. She came in a dream because I was asleep. But I can remember that conversation now. I can remember looking at her, looking into her eyes, and it was not so much a dream but an encounter. And so I think we have dreams. I think we have encounters and if people think, well, how do I know the difference between a dream and encounter? You’ll know an encounter because it literally is like they’ve been on you talking to you like a celebration.
Johnny Burke: All right, good. I like that too. Shamanic mediumship, which you brought up a moment ago. Very interesting because shamanism is one of the oldest mystics, if not the oldest, mystical practices, 30, 40, 50,000 years, maybe even older. How did you combine the two, or is it just a natural occurrence for that to happen?
Tony Stockwell: Well, I think it is a natural occurrence. Now, I understand shamanism. I’m lucky to live here where I’ve got a little bit of land here. So sometimes in the morning, sometimes at night, I can wander out, and I can look at the stars and I, I’ve got an owl as a barn owl above me on the big tree, and I hear his hoop. And I have these moments of, oh, being at one with the earth and at one with the stars and one with the wind. I’ve done some crazy stuff out there, and I love it. And, you know, I’ve banged a drum, and I’ve tried to whistle and do all of these fabulous things. I’ve sat by fires, chanted in the most primal of ways, and had experience.
So, but when I considered creating a hybrid between shamanism and mediumship as I know it, the very main crux of that, I suppose, is to no longer ask our recipients to be quiet. Only say yes or no; confirm or deny. So this is at least a 50-50 process. So, in our immediate program, we meditate with our clients so that they come with us. So then, if we see their mother, we ask them to walk to their mother and embrace their own mother, and how does that feel? So it becomes rather more like we are facilitating people’s own individual experiences of a soul world. And then we build from that. So, the Shamanic membership online program has only just started, but I don’t know really where it’ll take us. No doubt we will bang a drum and learn to chant, too. But, it has been utterly fascinating because, for the very first time, we’re allowing our clients to be co-creators in their own experience about mediumship.
Johnny Burke: And you have a class on this, right? You have a class on shamanic mediumship. How you mentor your students, the future mediums, the future psychic mediums; Is how you mentor and teach them different from what we typically see here in the States?
Tony Stockwell: Well, difficult to say. I’m not sure what you might see in the States. And I’ve worked in the States many, many times over many, many years. I’m back already, uh, back to the Omega Institute, which is not far from Woodstock, and the energy there, I totally concur.
Johnny Burke: It’s different.
Tony Stockwell: It’s a vibe and somebody said to me, if you wanted to move to the US, where would you live? And I said, upstate New York, straight away. The other areas are beautiful, but there is a power there. Utterly a power there.
But all I know here is that I try to tutor and instruct those who come to see me with fun and with respect, and I try to honor their own unique skills. And I’m desperately always trying to think outside of the box to see the much bigger picture. I think at the moment, we’ve had some issues where we have training our mediums and psychics in a very uniform, conformist, regimental way where we are churning out, no doubt, very talented people. But it’s very much the same as the person before and after them. So when I mentor people, which I do a lot of, I always try to look at the unique skills and gifts. Of that soul. So we start to help people to recognize their own soul’s worker and create really a uniqueness in them that allows them to do it their way. I do that in the States a lot. I do it in the UK and off to Australia, so I should do it there a lot and just try to have fun with it. I think, you know, that’s what I try to do anyway.
Johnny Burke: If you can make it fun, that would be amazing because it is amazing work that all of you mediums do. So, anybody who can do that seems like a superpower. It does. You’re not supposed to be able to connect with the dead, those who have passed on.
Speaking of tutoring, let’s talk for a moment about mediums that are certified. Now. I know of at least one nonprofit, it’s the Forever Family Foundation, where they literally certify mediums. And I have already interviewed two people that are connected with that establishment and they both said the same thing. Only about 15% of the mediums that go through the program are actually certified. They usually do about four or five back-to-back interviews on Skype. Then the sitters are quizzed, like you just said, yes or no, valid or not. And most of them are not certified. Do you feel that’s necessary, or does it really just come down to the evidential readings? Can you do them or not?
Tony Stockwell: Yeah, I mean, thank you for the questions. They’re very difficult one to answer in as much, you know, I’d want to respect other people’s processes, certainly, if that works for them. Who am I to say for me, personally, anytime and every time I feel that, like I’ve been auditioned or put under a degree of pressure, you know, beyond trying to serve, I’ve always performed very poorly. Very poorly. My human gets involved, my conscious mind rises, and so in the course of a day, I literally could do three one-to-one readings and be utterly fantastic. Second one, possible, third one. Please, God, help me. It just depends on the recipient. You know, I’m a great believer. You are only ever as good as your recipient.
I’m also not a great fan of ‘yes or no,’ so I will advise all my people never to ask your clients to give you a yes or a no. Always ask them to answer me briefly. Answer me honestly. Over many years, I’ve said something like, ” well, your father’s in the spirit world. Yes, no.?” Well, I’ve heard a big fat no because I only gave her two options, and it turns out that it was a stepfather who brought her up. You know, the living father is alive in the world. And you say, “Why didn’t you tell me? I got so confused Because you said, just say yes or no; your father’s in the spirit world? No.” If we ask you to answer briefly and honestly, no, but my stepfather is they’ve given you very little, you know, if you go on then to say Gordon, or you go on to say, you know, who’s Barry? Then you are validating it anyway.
So, I think test conditions do not work for everyone if it works. I’m really pleased, but I would hate the thought of very accomplished, very sincere, and accurate mediums not passing a process because of almost the fear of being viewed, marked, or auditioned, pass or fail; I think they may be missing something. I think I would much personally, invite the recommended mediums that maybe I’d go see work and give them a fair crack of the whip. That’s what I would do.
Johnny Burke: All right, I like that. And an interesting answer as well. So, since you’re going into the world of shamanism, have you or your clients have any experience of past lives or anything like that?
Tony Stockwell: I am a big fan of past lives, honestly. Secret addiction and part of my inner spiritualist as once was, you know, I was brought, brought up from the age of 16 onwards. That was very much my philosophy. But there is no space for reincarnation within it. Do you see? So if you imagine going back to the Victorian era, Johnny, where, you know, those mediums that worked were so busy trying to convince everyone their loved ones were alive. Then the Eastern philosophies came and said, oh, and also reincarnation. So I can imagine a normal person saying, look, is my grandmother alive? Is she in the other world, or has she been reincarnated?
Johnny Burke: Very confusing.
Tony Stockwell: So it just didn’t appear to say, but, of course, I recognize now that as a late friend of mine used to say, the soul is a multifaceted diamond. It, you know, resembles that. So I think we can be in multiple spaces simultaneously, and I think a part of us could be incarnate somewhere else and still manifest in the other world. I also think nowadays there’s parts of ourselves that are potentially already incarnate simultaneously to this incarnation we’re living now. Ever since I was a very small child, I have had many past life recalls. I know at the age of eight that I was once a woman in Africa giving birth to a child. I mean, that’s not normal for an 8-year-old boy to imagine.
Then another image was of a boat with sails heading off into this vast ocean for a new land. That was another image in my mind. There’s been lots, and the other is being in and around the time of Jack the Ripper in London. I still have a huge amount of resonance and connection there. So, I do believe very much in past lives for the purpose of soul growth.
Johnny Burke: I’ve been told by many, practitioners and mediums as well, where they go back to a certain life, because of an issue in this life. And once they get to see or relive it, in some cases, that often does heal the so-called wound, which is pretty amazing. What about the life in between life space? In between incarnations
Tony Stockwell: My human would be very comfortable saying, oh yeah, between incarnations, we dwell in the other dimension surrounded by our loved ones, walking in gardens, sipping tea, and that’s easy, isn’t it to imagine that. But I do believe that as before, we are having multiple experiences in our soul being.
What I actually believe now is that I’m already in heaven, as you are. We’re already in that other dimension, and only a small part of us has actually incarnated this time and had this human experience. So potentially, we’re already between lives and having life and lives simultaneously.
I keep saying that as a good friend of mine, these are all the friends that have passed over. If you live long enough, you lose a lot of people, as you know. We had a wonderful lady in our group, Yvonne, who was a fabulous person, and we’d have these wonderfully wild, wonderful, big discussions. And every now and again, she’d scratch her head and say, “You’ll have to stop. You are hurting my earth brain.” And it always made me laugh. The more you think about this stuff, it just doesn’t make sense. And then you have to go to sleep, wake up, and go again, and the hope that the mind is opening up sufficiently that it may be filled with more truth.
Johnny Burke: All right. Any past life experiences of either your memories or your client’s memories that go way, way back, maybe even before recorded time. Any experiences like that?
[Tony Stockwell: Yeah, that’s so interesting. I’ve, well, the one that comes to mind is living in caves, but not to run around thinking that a caveman as such is living in caves during a time of great disaster. And this memory, I don’t know where it comes from, but it’s been with him for a long time, and I imagine it almost to be like a volcanic eruption or something running into a cave. But the only reference I can honestly say is I was young, potentially female. That’s never really very clear because I do obviously believe in male, female, non-binary, whatever incarnations. Possibly female feeling, maybe like I’m a 13-year-old innocent in that space waiting for something to pass. And the vibe I’ve always had with that is that it is before the time of Christ. So I don’t know about the beginning of our childhood, but this idea is from a long time ago. I’ll have to start considering how far I can remember.
Johnny Burke: Well, the reason I bring that up is because I’ve had several people on the show that have past life memories of ancient civilizations like Atlantis and Lemuria, which is supposed to be even older. And even Mu, which some people say Mu and Lemuria are the same thing, and some say different, but we’re talking about at least 10,000 years ago. And what a lot of them do have in common is that we had abilities, like you do- mediumship, telepathy, things like that were normal. Everyone had them. That’s my interest in past lives, and that’s when people bring up things like ascension, which is somewhat related to the medium or psychic explosion, because we see an uptick in that activity. It’s also been explained to me that that is our consciousness rising and maybe even going back up to that previous high. I don’t know if we’re going to see it in this lifetime, but a lot of people are talking about it. There’s a lot of chatter.
Tony Stockwell: And have you also considered the idea that we may incarnate in different worlds within?
Johnny Burke: Oh yeah, no question. So you have an interest in star seeds. So, I’ve been interviewing them lately. And I even had one woman say, “Has anyone told you that you’re Andromedan? ” I thought, no, not until just now. They talk about incarnating on other worlds and star races as if they’re like talking about, watching a TV show like it’s completely normal. So how does that come up in your work?
Tony Stockwell: Well, thank you for that. Since the age of 19, I’ve been a trance medium. So, when I was 19, I was in a group with a wonderful medium; then suddenly, I thought I was going to explode. I felt so tiny. I felt so huge. I couldn’t breathe. I went sweaty, clammy, my heart raced. I was 19 years of age, and suddenly, I heard myself speak to a very small group; that was momentous, one of the most momentous experiences of my life because I’m a 19-year-old kid, and suddenly, this old man was speaking through me.
So I’ve been developing this gift of trance for all these years. But it was only about, it could be a year ago, I was given a trance demonstration to a group, and this other star being, a guardian, came through, announced himself as called Star. My name is Star, and came through and spoke to the group. So I listened to this on a recording the next day, and it blew my mind. Because he spoke through me and said that he wasn’t passed over. He was not in the other world, but he was actually incarnate at this time in another world, reaching out with his mind to the minds of mediums in the way of communicating with us. Now, for others, that might just seem like last week’s news to me. Maybe I must have been a step behind everybody else because that was actually beyond anything I’d considered before. And since then, since that sort of revelation, he’s been through a number more times, and there’s been different thoughts and ideas and possibilities that have entered my awareness when working that are gearing up to this awareness that we are influenced not only by the discarnate but sometimes the incarnate, so beings that dwell about us.
Johnny Burke: Both of them- discarnate and incarnate. Whenever the subject of star beings or star seeds comes up, inevitably, it has something to do with channeling. So when you talk about being a trance medium, isn’t that related to channeling or not necessarily? Because the two tend to be often confused, or maybe it’s, there’s nothing to be confused about.
Tony Stockwell: I mean, thank you again. That’s a great point. I was just joking around by saying American mediums may do channeling, but British mediums offer trance. And so it doesn’t make any sense. But the idea is that, in my experience, there was a lot of channeling going on with my American colleagues. If you were to ask them, did you hear what was being said? They’d say, sure, because it’s moving through me.
So an example would be the wonderful Esther Hicks. I’ve never met that lady, but I did hear from another that she would and may have suggested that she hears what comes through her. I don’t want to misquote her in any way. But it’s not of her, but runs through her. With trance, it’s very similar, but there’s much less awareness of what’s being said. So there’s far more personality that comes through. So if I were to trance and then my own trance guide, guardian control called Zinta, he would come through, I can honestly say hand on my heart, there are moments when I lose everything. Like I’ve gone, and I come back, and I can hear him still speaking.
But I’ve also channeled before, of course. And so I had a big experience when I was working in New Jersey with a friend of mine, Janet Havoc, who’s now gone. I spoke much for an afternoon speaking without really stopping. And I found it actually brilliant because I was listening to what I was saying. It felt like I was up here, my mouth was independent, and I was speaking and gesticulating and I was up here thinking, wow, this is so interesting. I can honestly say it didn’t come from me but moved through me.
I understand channeling, and I love it because you get to listen firsthand. Trance is deeper, sometimes more taxing, and more energetically depleting. But you present the spirit with an opportunity to merge with the medium in such a way that you feel they’re in the room where channeling falls faster, lighter. But see, no one is better than the other. They are very similar. They’re very much common bedfellows. But there is a unique difference, too.
Johnny Burke: Very good explanation because I was often confused by mediumship, trance mediumship, and channeling, and I think there’s got to be an intersection there where they’re very similar. But what you just said makes a lot of sense because with trance, there’s less awareness. I think, in some cases, a trance medium might forget what was spoken and would lose everything had it not been for a recording. So I’ve heard that before, too. Let’s talk about safeguards and spiritual hygiene now with medium shipper channeling or any kind of contact with the outside or the unseen world; any safety precautions that you use that you would suggest for other mediums as well?
Tony Stockwell: No, I don’t. And I’ll tell you why. I keep it very simple. My late grand would always say, Tone, it’s not the dead you want to worry about, son it’s the living.. Just imagine, the man that we know, who was the most dreadful, you know, whether you knew him from TV or personal experience upon death, the things that made him so would be left upon the earth. So if somebody’s suffering with addiction, drug addiction, some mental imbalance, some poor behavior due to sexual impulse or anger, anything you can really think of. Why do people do crazy things? It is an earthly thing. It doesn’t belong to the soul. So you’ll hear at times people doing some really quite difficult things, and they’ll say, oh, you know, it’s not really her fault because she had an awful childhood. So those things didn’t come in with her. They’re not part of her soul, but they come from her humans’ experience. So I would suggest when people pass, the wonderful thing about that is that we leave behind those. Other influences.
And what moves into the other world is their essential soul’s being; their light body. Now, I’m not suggesting everything’s ticky boo, if they’ve had a grizzly time upon the earth and created a loss of pain and problem, and no doubt that soul being would want to atone for that difficulty. But what I do believe is each time I say hello, ladies and gentlemen, let’s have a wonderful evening together. I’ve got a gentleman here. If I, even if I detect a man, father difficult, alcohol, violence towards mother, whatever comes in, I’m never afraid of him. because all he’s doing is remembering who he was. Who I have here is an advancing soul being who has had a difficult human experience. So I never feared the other world at all because I know I’m connecting to their light body.
Johnny Burke: But you can say without doubt that when our loved ones and our friends pass on, they’re not gone forever. They’re just in a different place.
Tony Stockwell: You know it. Yeah. And, I’d say, Johnny, for years, we used this language of’ they’ve gone to the spirit world. ‘And I think that’s difficult because it would suggest that they’re away from us on a planet or something like that. But of course, I never say that. Oh, I try not to say it now. Sometimes I do slip up, but I would rather say to my clients that they’re just in another dimension. They’re just here at different frequencies, as you rightly suggested before. And I think that’s a much more understandable way of presenting that information. They now just vibrate in a different space, because they’re away from their human’s body.Of course, they’re around us, and we can call upon them and ask ’em to come gather and be at the birth of our grandchildren. And, when we cannot sleep, ask to come join us and use the time wisely without any fear.
Johnny Burke: And they can hear us when we talk to them.
Tony Stockwell: There’s all sorts of things here to be said, isn’t it? Because people will ask me these questions, and they’ll say, oh, we’re newlyweds. Will my grandmother be upset? And I say, oh no, listen, that your grandmother’s not going to be watching you making out. That’s not going to happen. They’re not going to watch you talking about thoughty things. So, I don’t think they’re constantly omnipresent at all. But I do feel that if there are days and times where we really feel, come, friends come close to me, come friends, spend this day with me, then they manifest. I think we have to invoke them to come, but if anything else I think they’re aware of us emotionally. And when we feel sad, I do feel they gather.
Johnny Burke: I think it’s definitely helpful to know that. To leave our listeners with an impression, what is your favorite example of an evidential reading?
Tony Stockwell: Oh god. I’ve set hundreds and thousands of other mediums working in my own mediumship, and this sounds egotistical when I mention myself on Wednesday night, so it’s fresh in my mind. If you don’t mind. I was given a theater demonstration local to me, only 40 minutes up the road. It was, it was full, it was three, 400 people in a room. And the demo was fine. We had fun. It was evidential, smooth, and nice. And then I kind of ran out of energy, and I was getting tired towards the end of the second hour. And so I often then say, may I have a photograph? Does anybody in the room have a photograph of a loved one? May I blend with your photograph?
So it’s a psychic connection that you then build, and then you ask the soul to come stand upon the foundation of the psychic knowing. And so this young lady gave me the photograph when I asked her, and it was an older couple. I was only talking about this earlier, but the reading was fine. I wouldn’t have won any prizes; it was just fine. It was Nan and Grand coming through. He liked cooking. She was a nice lady. And some other evidence, which I can’t remember. I often talk to groups to say that in mediumship, we can receive things passively or actively. So the information about him cooking, her being kind, and the children was all passive. So it was entering my awareness. Popping into my mind. I’m offering her the information. It was well received, thank God. And then I actively said in my thoughts, come on, friend to the gentleman. Give me your name. Give me your name. Give me your name. Now I can sometimes ask that a hundred times and never get anything or get it all wrong,
Johnny Burke: You can get it wrong, right?
Tony Stockwell: Yes, yes. Oh, absolutely. It’s all about the interpretation. And there’s off days, there’s no question. But on this day, the channel was clear, and I heard myself say,’ Alan, ‘as it came out of my mouth, but it had nothing to do with me. And of course the reaction was oh my God, oh my God, that’s his name. And in a flash, I called the lady, come give me your name. Give me your name, give me your name. And on this occasion, it worked -‘June.’ And I say June. And then the big reaction, I mean they were leaping up and down, clapping, clapping, crying, Alan and June.
Now I only share it because it only happened on Wednesday and I’ve got over it since. And there’ll be other mediums, such as listening and thinking. Well, I can do that every day. Well, I will say, well, well done. For me,I gained so much from that because it makes up all the times that maybe it doesn’t work so well. But I could fit that demonstration simply saying, you know, for you, your grandparents return, and they love you. And it just felt really real, really real, and I liked it.
Johnny Burke: How else would you know that? So, good to know. Any closing comments or observations about mediumship that the average person really needs to know?
[Tony Stockwell: I would simply say seek out a good medium. Now, good mediums are as rare as hen’s teeth. So go by recommendation, search and seek. And sometimes, you might go and see a very accomplished and a very well-regarded medium and get very little from it. So it’s one of those things where it’s horses for courses and then by seeing their student medium, you get the best contact you’ve ever had. So it really is, do you resonate with the medium? Does the medium resonate with you? Can we feel into your pain? Can they feel into your knowing? So I think I’m trying to give it multiple opportunities. See a few good mediums that you sit with sincerely, and you give them the opportunity to feel on your behalf. Don’t also feel you need to give them a hard time with barking yeses and barking nos.
Some years ago, I read for a lady from Scotland. Her children had bought her the air ticket ,they bought her the appointment, and I started the reading, and I might have said something quite inaccurate, but her reaction was so fabulous, and she said something like,’ oh Tony, it’s not true, but do try again.’ And she was so open and so wishing and believing. She told me nothing, but I’ll tell you what: the reading was fabulous. In the end, it was just a fabulous reading because she wanted it so. She was so easy and loving and warm, and tender and passionate as opposed to somebody that comes in with their arms folded saying, prove it. Prove it. Prove it. It’s never going to happen
