#79 Amelia Vogler: Energy medicine and Soul Truama
Johnny Burke: Welcome to Closer To Venus, I’m Johnny Burke and today’s guest is Amelia Vogler. She is an energy medicine specialist, meditation guide and internationally respected teacher. Today, we will be talking about energy medicine and treating soul trauma. Amelia, welcome to the show.
Amelia Vogler: Hey, John. Thanks so much. Hey everyone.
Johnny Burke: Now, how did you get started, in working with energy??
Amelia Vogler: Well, you know, John, I think I started the moment I came into the planet, ’cause I remember being a little child and having experiences of being in the grocery store, and my mom would kind of park me over there next to the oranges while she was doing her shopping. And I would see colors around people and I would hear things as individuals walked past and I would feel discomfort in my body. My life has been a rich tapestry of sort of multidimensionality that’s just sort of evolved with me through my life. But I should say my life has not always been this way because our everyday reality really, kind of drives this multidimensionality out of our consciousness. I did what I called normal life. I went to school, I went to college, and I got a master’s. I did engineering and all that time feeling a little dead inside. Because I wasn’t acknowledging the bigness of my experience.
Johnny Burke: When you mentioned something like, multidimensionality. I’ve heard more than once thousands of years ago, that there were very advanced societies where we were multi-dimensional beings. Is that what you’re referring to or is that something completely different?
Amelia Vogler: No, I think that’s exactly what I’m referring to. And I think we have all evolved in some ways from these expanded consciousnesses, in the same way, kind of like my life has a little microcosmic example. I was born here with a big perspective of these multi dimensionalities that we live in and then life kind of eclipsed my awareness of them. I think that happened in my little life, but it also happened to us as humanities over a large period of life. So thinking about me going to college and studying Victorian lit, maybe that could be likened to an entire century of the industrial revolution here that helped, kind of reroute our perspectives as human beings into kind of a smaller silo where we forget how really big we are
Johnny Burke: You mentioned the word forget; I’ve also heard that several times where going back to the idea of multi-dimensional beings, that we did have that type of expanded consciousness, albeit thousands and thousands of years ago, and we have forgotten. And I’ve also heard other intuitives talk about trying to remember what we were way back when.
I know that you have a very interesting background and were you able to see and communicate with spirit or spirits at an early age. Tell us a little bit about that.
Amelia Vogler: have you ever heard of that expression” We pick our family? “
Johnny Burke: Of course. And we will get to that.
Amelia Vogler: The family I picked in this lifetime was my father, who is a funeral director owner. And that funeral home has been in our family for 250 years. And my mother is this amazing artist and she’s quite creative and she’s done a lot of things in terms of growing plants and working with the natural world. So my little soul was born into an opportunity to dance with the dead and also dance with the living. As I was a little child, I would go and roller skate through the funeral home because it’s a massive building. It has big doorways and it has, you know, easy ways to get rolling things through that place.
So I did have a lot of experiences with the spirit world and with communicating and hearing. At that point when I was little, I was already hearing sort of the spirits of the living, if you will. But here in the funeral home, I would hear kind of the whispers of those who had departed. and those messages kind of came at me and with me in many different ways.
Johnny Burke: How scary was that as a young kid, to hear these whispers?
Amelia Vogler: I’ve always been a very curious person. In my Mayan astrology chart, which I know is a little off tangent here, but I have alligator medicine in me, and alligators, we dive into the murk. And we’re just kind of curious, like what makes you a criminal? What’s going on with your psyche? what is that voice that I’m hearing?Or even being in the grocery store, having that entourage, that onslaught of extra sensory experiences? I was never scared by it, it was just part of the tapestry of my life.
Johnny Burke: you also mentioned, that choosing your family- that’s going to open up a rabbit hole as I’m sure you’re aware of but tell us how that actually happened- what the process is?
Amelia Vogler: Oh, okay. I can actually speak to that process, and I’ll take you through the story of how we come to be from an energetic perspective.
Johnny Burke: That’s exactly what we want to hear.
Amelia Vogler: Okay. Let’s imagine for a moment, a great void, a space in which all possibilities are encoded. It’s not a field of energy. It’s a void, it’s a space, it’s a different dimension than we’re used to thinking about. So we think of this void and this space as being rich with pure potential. And from that void, we too, emerge each of us as our unique spark, our unique, constitution, our unique manifestation of that great void of all possibility. As we emerge in our own uniqueness, that’s what we call our core star. It is sort of the light that is constantly creating us. And one of the ways in which that light is translated is through the spirit. And the spirit is, is sort of the light that we are.
if you think of your hand, the spirit feeds into our souls. Our souls are our different incarnated versions of our spirits. So let me back that up a minute. Think about your hand and let’s say you stick your hand in a fishbowl. You have your fingers kind of dancing, just beneath the water surface. If you were looking at the bottom of the fishbowl, looking up, you would see what looked like individual little islands or little fingers. But as if you were to travel up the fingers, you realize, oh my gosh, it’s all connected to the same thing. Each of those fingers are connected to the hand or the spirit. So from that great field of energy, our spirit emerges through this creative process. And then individuates itself into different soul expressions for different lifetimes.
Each of those soul expressions does have ways of communicating with each other. However, for the sake of our story, we’ll stick with one soul that is our incarnated spirit, trying to live out a specific purpose to learn something.. As we are developing. and coming to be in human form, there are a lot of decisions that get worked out here.. What’s our purpose here? What’s our mission ? Who’s going to help us create that mission.? What’s our soul group like? What’s our relationship to our physical body.? As you know, some people come in with really deep challenges in their physical body, disabilities or exceptionalities,. I like to call them, or maybe they’re destined to have a large accident in their lifetime to help grow them. But in those choice points, in that code of who your soul is to be here, that’s what gets referenced when we come to pick our parents..
Johnny Burke: What you’re describing, Dr. Michael Newton wrote about this in several books, he called. life between lives, between incarnations. A famous psychic medium, she’s the long island medium actually likened that process, that space as essentially casting a movie. She likened it to an episode of Saturday Night Live where there are all these different skits and different characters, but at the end of the night, everyone hugs, which I thought was actually quite clever. so we actually do choose our parents, choose our parents, choose our family, what you call the soul group. Sometimes it’s scripted where we have bad things happen.
Amelia Vogler: Yeah. Yeah. Things that grow us and there’s no bad in energy. Energy has kind of got all possibilities and, because energy, if we take it outside of the regular polarity plus and minus positive-negative, from the consciousness perspective, there’s nothing bad. That’s something that we overlay here in the human world, and that’s why we here in the spiritual communities, people talking about, “oh, this must be happening for a reason” which could be in some ways there’s some spiritual bypassing around that where it’s like,” okay, well, I’ll just find the reason to move on,” but there’s some deeper truth in that if we really do the work to understand what the meaning is, and that could take a lifetime.
Johnny Burke: Or several lifetimes
Amelia Vogler: yeah. If we don’t get it this time, it’s going to come back in a different way. And I see that in my practice.
Johnny Burke: Interesting. So let’s talk about your practice. Energy medicine. The first thing I think of when I hear that term is shamanism. Energy, and how that relates to shamanism, ancient practice. Thousands of years old. Is there a connection between the two?
Amelia Vogler: Yeah. Johnny, I think there is a connection there. I think we have to be really careful when we start creating one-to-one relationships in this work. So shamanism is one type of energy medicine, but it’s also deeply embedded in a larger cultural framework. People who identify as shamans or shamanic practitioners, many times they’re doing more than just healing, they’re tending to the community, they are bringing forth the template and the messages for what’s next coming in our human evolution. So, I think that the shamanic practitioners do use energy as medicine. They also use rituals and ceremonies, which allow us access to energy in different ways. It’s a really exciting pairing to think of how do the practitioners do energy medicine.
Johnny Burke: It really is. it’s quite fascinating because there are quite a few different modalities there’s energy medicine, Reiki, healers, energy healers, past life regression, Akashic records, it seems to me at least from what I’m told is that a lot of these modalities, connected as speaking of connections. Can you give us an example of your practice, how you use energy medicine, and what are some typical scenarios when someone comes to see you?
Amelia Vogler: Yeah, there’s a couple, I think anyone who is working in energy has sort of a large toolkit I have studied things from sound healing to acutonics working with tuning forks on the body to color therapy, to aromatherapy, which are different forms of vibrational therapies to yoga, which is, moving energy in the body as you actually move breath to body together. My practice has evolved now and it kind of sits in the space of the soul. because that’s what I came in understanding. It’s kind of like I was presented right between these spirits coming, who had recently departed, and these blooming little flowers on the farm that I grew up watching these cycles of life unfold in front of me.
So when people come to see me, what they’re struggling with is this feeling like.” I don’t belong here. I’ve never belonged here.” Or” I don’t know there’s something restless in me. I’ve never really been able to feel grounded here”. That’s a term some people hear about in the world. I also have people who come to me with feeling like I’ve never been loved. I’ve never felt love. Relationships are really hard for me. You know, these kind of lingering patterns that seemed to be a sort of like walking around with a big Santa bag on your shoulder, kind of carrying the burden of this same burden, but not knowing how to get to it. I’m really good at hearing what is the energy pattern of that burden ? Where did it come from? How do we change it? How do we rewrite that story? And how do we anchor that story back in the soul?
Johnny Burke: And in doing so, speaking of your toolkit, that does mean going back to past lives, soul trauma, and so forth?. so. how is that different or how is it similar to a past life regression therapist that has the same person come in and say, I have this type of anxiety, et cetera, et cetera.
Amelia Vogler: Yeah. I’m going to just preface what I’m going to say with a little disclaimer. I don’t mean to offend, I actually have deep respect for people who do past life regression. I don’t do them because I think they’re freaky. I don’t want to regress anyone in their full expression of their energy to another place in their past because I have seen people who come to me with parts of themselves, continuing to be stuck in the past. They would say to me,” I went to see so and so, and we did a past life regression and I feel like I left a part of myself there.” Oh, we got to go get that back. You’re going to need that!”
Johnny Burke: And speaking of which, I’ll quote something from your website:” energy workers apparently can hear the loops that keep people stuck and seem to know how to help them rewrite stories in a way that their souls can understand it.” can you kind of make that a little bit clearer so even the skeptics out there can actually get their head around it? I think it’s hard for everybody.
Amelia Vogler: I think it’s really hard and it’s nonlinear. So we’re having to take some big cognitive leaps to understand what it is we’re talking about. I would like to just for a moment kind of speak to my process I like to help us connect to that great field of pure potential and possibility from which each of us emerges.
Johnny Burke: Would you call that pure consciousness?
Amelia Vogler: I would call it pure consciousness. The imaginal realm, the zero-point field, the all that is, the universal field, the matrix. These are some other terms for that, but we can get at the pure possibility when we allow the wisdom that we have inside to play again, to be curious again.
What I do is when I start hearing patterns-I’ll give you an example. I was teaching just the other night and we were doing an exercise called alternate nostril breathing. It’s really beautiful Hindu breathing practice to help balance the right and left hemispheres of the brain, and a woman in class came up after the exercise and said to me, “well, Amelia, I have to say that really freaked me out. I felt like when I was closing my nose, I was suffocating, that I couldn’t breathe. And she said I’ve had allergy issues my whole life and whenever I get a bad allergy attack, I feel like I’m drowning. I feel like I am suffocating. And so it scares me.” Aha ! Here’s an example of one of those patterns. This is something that her physical body is experiencing. All of us get stuffy from time to time, but not everybody feels like they’re suffocating. So when I start seeing these connections between, sort of an existential crisis, how am I going to be okay here? And whether it be something in the physical, like asthma or breathing issues, or, I had a woman with a tumor come in. Not sure what that tumor was carrying. We can get at those.
These are also patterns that we’re carrying. So if I was to work with that woman who was having trouble breathing, I would want to get in touch with what does that feeling of suffocation feel like for you? Where does it sit? Is it in the heart? Is it in the stomach? Is it in the head? Because it could be many, many different places. What happens to your body? Do you disappear? Do you shrink in? And then all of those expressions of this issue, those are experiences of energy contraction in the body.
And it’s different from just talking with somebody, because what we do also is you’re sitting in my therapeutic space and you’re sitting in my energy field and we have, for whatever reason, I came into the earth to know how to do this. I can hold a space where suddenly we can go deeper than just a conversation and people say, “oh my God, I’m remembering a time I’m hearing my mother’s heartbeat. Suddenly I’m feeling like there’s water around me.” Are you in the womb? Yes. Did your mother have asthma? Yes. Was there anything scary that happened to your mother when you were pregnant? Yes. That’s not yours. That’s hers. Let’s give it back to her, and let’s rebirth you.
Johnny Burke: in this type of process, is this how you can sometimes stumble to a point maybe in this life, maybe in a life before this one, is that how it’s done? So, it sounds like it is similar to past life regression although, at this point, you’re really trying to figure out what the cause is.
Amelia Vogler: Well, yeah and we’re staying with that present experience in the body, at no time is this person my client like in a trance state or. Ungrounded or doesn’t have access to their own physical experience. And that’s the fundamental difference between what I do in a past life regression is that we’re always going through the immediacy of an experience because my perspective is you brought it here so we can work with it here. Instead of leaving the body to go and explore . We just access it from here. We know that in every single one of our atoms that make up ourselves that make up our body, we have a connection to that universal field, that imaginal field, that void that zero point. So we go in instead of.
Johnny Burke: Speaking of soul trauma. What are some of the most prevalent types that you deal with with your clients?
Amelia Vogler: I think that’s such an interesting question. I tend to attract in my practice, individuals who have never felt okay in their bodies. Like I never felt okay in my body, or I’ve never felt okay in the world. Like, I’ve just never been enough. I’ve never been lovable. God has abandoned me. Those are some that I often work with.I feel invisible. I can’t manifest anything. I don’t know how to be with people. Then there’s this other spectrum that I think is really interesting. I tend to attract people who have been quartered or buried in past lives, which I think is just really bizarre. But for some reason, I’m really good at taking disparate parts and bringing them back home.
Johnny Burke: you mentioned people that don’t feel like they belong like they’re not from here. And they feel almost like an alien. Doesn’t that imply someone that was from another, not necessarily from the earth, maybe from another star system or another planet or another world.?
Amelia Vogler: It certainly could be that. Honestly, Johnny, I think we all are that. If we go back far enough, we all come from some star systems. We kind of travel, I think, with our own kind of star group in some ways, but we’ve just evolved more in our earth, constitution identity. But there are some times that I work with people where a significant part of themselves has been placed away. As if they went through something that was so freaking scary, they left and they said, you know what? I’m going to go hang out on this planet for a while.. And, it’s really cute the way that we work with that, because I literally say, “Hey, you know what? I think we need to get in a spaceship. And I think we need to go find that part of you”.Because we’re using imagination. and when we go, “oh my God, it’s you. “And I say,” how does it feel to see yourself here?’ Oh my God, I feel alive.’ ‘Well, why don’t you invite them to come back with us? Okay. I think I will.” and then boom. We do the re-integration work.
Johnny Burke: When you mentioned, feeling alive do you think it’s true that some of the spirits that you’ve been able to communicate with seem more alive than some of the people here in our everyday life,?
Amelia Vogler: Well, what a beautiful question.
Johnny Burke: I didn’t come up with it myself. I have heard that more than a few times, with other intuitives, but I will take credit for it though.
Amelia Vogler: you got it- credit granted, but it is a beautiful question. And I feel like aliveness, this is where my geeky engineering brain goes. “Okay. Well, what’s your definition of aliveliness, I think our capacity to be is fully expanded in our spirit form and here we get constricted into this tiny little body that is holding something quite great. so we get to learn to navigate it, but I do feel like we can be equally alive here if we allow ourselves
Johnny Burke: I’ve heard many people that have had near-death experiences where they felt they were more alive in that space, that euphoria, that infinite love, Christ Consciousness was much more expensive; they felt like they were almost liberated from being out the body. So that’s most likely where that comes from.
So here’s a practical question: every once in a while, I’ll have people come up to me and ask me questions about the show like,” how do you know this is real? “How do you know these people are not just making it up?” I always preface any discussion with, I am not an expert -it’s and it’s not my job to really verify this with that because you can’t really fact check it, but what can you tell the people that are skeptical yet curious, because I think they want to believe, but they don’t really have that proof what would you tell them?
Amelia Vogler: Well, the very first thing I would tell them is that it’s never okay for anybody to tell you your truth.
Johnny Burke: Really?
Amelia Vogler: That your truth is your truth. And that I believe that our curiosity is important That our curiosity is leading us to something that it’s sort of like a tow line from something else, like leading you in the direction of more inquiry, more curiosity, maybe more experience like when you were describing John that sense of limitlessness that some people discuss, I would say, you know where I first that? On the massage table, getting my very first energy medicine treatment- boom! Lost my body. I was alive in the bigness of myself and then the next piece was to learn to live that and bring that into my everyday moment and be able to access it like that, yes, I can be in the grocery store looking at oranges or boom! I can be in the middle of that orange tasting the entire tree that it was grown from because I practice.
To the people who are curious, I say honor that, but, but please don’t let anybody say “this is truth ” right? Because it’s also a consciousness and I’m not saying any lower consciousness or higher consciousness, one is better or worse. It’s just that each of us has our own capacity to kind of see and connect with the bigness of who they are, who we are in any given moment. So if it’s a leap for you to kind of try on some of these concepts, dance where you are with this stuff. But also I would say pay attention to your senses and your feelings. There’s a lot of different ways energy communicates with you. And so a lot of times people just think it’s vision like, oh, you can see stuff and colors and this and that, but there’s a lot of other ways, energy and truth kind of speaks to you.
Johnny Burke: The way I look at it, I repeatedly will tell people. I’m not an expert. I’m just a curious guy with questions and whatever comes forth on the show, whatever episodes come out, it’s up to the listeners to find their truth. Right? And another thing is this: I had a woman reach out to me recently because she asked me a question about, Walter Semkiw, who I interviewed a while back. The question was, “do you really think he’s a reincarnation of John Adams? “And I said, you know what? I can’t really answer that, but I will tell you this. I don’t think he’s a BS guy. I think he’s a straight shooter. And I also said you’re not gullible. You’re a woman. And the reason why more women get this is because they have intuition, which is not native to men.
Amelia Vogler: Well, I know very many intuitive so I don’t know if that feels quite true for me, but what I heard in your sharing is that you’re holding a space for, different perspectives to come through. And I think that’s part of you as healer, john, I think that’s you standing as your own energy healer in some ways, inviting people to new knowledge and new information and creating that space for them to be curious about. So I think that’s right on. That’s what we’re doing here. We’re vibrating together or trying to help each other come home to who we are in the world.
Johnny Burke: I really rely on the guest speakers here. When it really comes down to it, I stumbled through a lot of this. I’ve learned a lot. Hopefully, people that are curious, like I am, will feel the same way.
Amelia Vogler: And in my consultations, I do these free consultations. So people can talk with me because I just think I love people. I’m curious, but I say everything in this space is intentional. Everything that comes out of your mouth is like a little doorway that we can walk through.
And I feel like what you’re doing is you’re holding some really big, beautiful doors for people and just letting all of us come and walk through it and offer new little doorways for people to look through and kind of go, ” is that important for me?” And maybe it’s not in this moment, but four years from now, they’ll remember, Hey, I remember Johnny talked with Walter because blah, blah, blah. Energy is just going to come into our awareness when we need it to, it’s just amazing. It’s all here. We just need somebody to open the doors.
Johnny Burke: That’s a really, really cool explanation. For people that are curious about energy medicine, would you recommend they trya Reiki healer? What would you tell them?
Amelia Vogler: Well, I think listen to what’s calling you, Each practitioner, even in the different areas of energy medicine. So there’s Reiki, quantum touch, healing touch, therapeutic touch, There’s sound therapy, quantum therapy, polarity therapy, and movement therapies like yoga. And, there’s somatic experiencing if you’re kind of more on the like psychological side.
Are you somebody who is really interested in the way the mind works and how you think about things? If that’s the case, I would encourage you to check out something like a somatic experiencing, because it’s an energy psychology type of energy medicine ,or tapping, EFT. So it’s a little bit more in that line of kind of extending the cognition app. And then for those of you who are, somebody that can’t sit still and they can’t move, like they can’t stop moving. I would say go to the movement, vibrational therapies like yoga or Tai Chi or Quigong, which Quigong healing is a whole way of doing energy healing. It’s not just a movement, it’s a healing modality and an ancient one. And then for those of you who are curious about getting kind of out of the body and those of you who might like meditation, I really like healing touch. Healing touch actually comes from the nursing tradition. It’s actually accredited through the American nurses credentialing center here in the United States. So it’s been validated scientifically, it’s quite an every day energy therapy. But boy, it’s incredible. It’s absolutely incredible.
Reiki and healing touch and therapeutic touch are similar.,so you might seek out Reiki, but a Reiki practitioner only has to go to a weekend class to become a level one Reiki practitioner, and then they do another weekend level two, and then they can go and get their master certification, Reiki comes through these different transmissions. So sometimes you’ll find practitioners who are quite new in the field and haven’t had a lot of experience actually doing the client side of the practice. So it could be a little clunky, like how are they holding that space for you?
Johnny Burke: it would be really interesting if sometime in our lifetimes people can have like an intuitive index rating, because some people are obviously more developed than others. Their empathic intuitive ability could be like, almost off the charts. I guess you have to just trust your intuition, right ?
Amelia Vogler: And see what it’s like. That’s part of why I do the free consultation is so that I can feel, is this person and I, are we on kind of the same vibration? Am I going to be able to use the language that I use of energy and have them understand it? Because it would be a disservice to them. If I’m not speaking their language and that’s when I refer out, because I really want people to find their way to their healing. It’s not about booking clients. So, I would seek out practitioners who have a touch point ahead, so you could kind of try it out. What’s it like? What are you like? How do you speak?
Do I feel seen, heard, and acknowledged in your presence?. So I think that could be a nice thing just to keep your eyes open for practitioners who, and even if they don’t list it on their website, you might contact them and say” would you be willing to do like a 15-minute conversation with me? “I just don’t like to book sessions before I talk to somebody, you could be a wacko.!
Johnny Burke: I think they should do that anyway. Excellent. Amelia, thanks for coming onto the show today. thought you brought up some really, really good points. How can our listeners find out more about you online?
Amelia Vogler: thanks Johnny. So you can find me@ameliavogler.com or on Instagram at Amelia Vogler _healing.
